The first weeks of training focus on learning
basic stances and techniques - the fundamentals of karate. Conditioning
exercises are balanced with karate drills until students can perform
basic techniques without hesitation. In this way, the mind and body
are linked together.
Spirit
can be described as self-confidence. As difficult techniques become
routine, confidence grows. In this way the mind and body become
coordinated.
Basic karate techniques taught in this class include:
stances, movement, blocks, punches, kicks, falls, throws, escapes,
sparring, and kata. Kata means form - a memorized series of movements
and techniques performed in a specific pattern. Kata is the foundation
of traditional karate.
A student's rank can be evaluated by the performance
of kata. Karate techniques are given application and meaning
through kata. A goal of traditional karate is to inspire self discoveries
through the practice of kata. Myo Sim Karate teaches a comprehensive
system of kata and technique.
Many students first study karate for self-defense.
All students will learn that the best self defense is - "Not
to be there!" The fundamental philosophy taught in this school
is to avoid, diffuse, and escape conflict. Always remember that
the roots of karate are very brutal and that most conflict is caused
by fear. Self confidence can overcome fear. Self defense begins
with your self. This is the spirit of karate.
